Lasith Malinga is considered as the deadliest bowlers in the world of Cricket. Not only in T20 but in all formats of the game. Malinga has been named in the 16-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2018 that is going to be held in UAE. Niroshan Dickwella, Lahiru Kumara, Prabath Jayasuriya and Shehan Jayasuriya, who all took part in the ODI home series against South Africa, have been dropped from the SriLankan Side.
Malinga last made an appearance for the Island nation back in September 2017 against India. A knee injury, followed by fitness issues forced the 35-year-old out of action for a year. Sri Lanka have been struggling in the 50-over format, winning just 2 of their last 12 series.

Dinesh Chandimal, who was ignored for the South Africa series following his six-match ban, has been recalled to the squad. However, there are concerns over his availability as he sustained a hairline fracture to his middle finger while attempting a catch in an SLC T20 Super League match. Niroshan Dickwella will be called in as cover if he fails to recover on time.
Another notable inclusion is that of Danushka Gunathilaka. The attacking opening batsman will make a comeback after serving his six-match suspension for breaching the ‘Player Code of Conduct and Contractual Obligation’.

Akila Dananjaya will join the team mid-way through the tournament due to personal reasons. Graeme Labrooy, chairman of selectors, was quoted as saying by The Island. “Akila Dananjaya although he is in the squad, he will not travel with the team as his wife is expected to give birth to their first child between the 15Th and 17th of September.
“It is crucial that we have an off-spinner. That’s why we have brought in Dilruwan Perera. He has been on top of his game with bat and ball. We will put him in the big league and see how he fares although Akila is our number one spinner in shorter formats of the game. This is the reason why we have named 16 players in the squad instead of 15.”
The tournament begins on September 15, with Sri Lanka taking on Bangladesh in Dubai.
